The project: A fitted media wall in Widnes with a wide i1500 electric fire, a recessed television, and illuminated alcoves for display. No flue needed, and the alcove lighting gives a warm glow in the evening.
A media wall in Widnes with a panoramic electric fire
This is a recent media wall we installed in Widnes. The brief was a clean, built in look that brought together a wide electric fire, a recessed television, and lit display alcoves on a single plastered wall. The finished wall is a warm focal point that works whether the fire is lit or not.
What the customer wanted
The customer wanted three things from the wall. A fire with a wide, modern flame picture. A neat home for the television that did not sit proud of the wall. And display alcoves that felt part of the design rather than an afterthought. We planned the proportions so the fire, the screen, and the niches all sat in balance.
The i1500 electric fire
We fitted an i1500 electric fire, a wide panoramic model from the Charlton and Jenrick iRange. It gives a long, full flame picture across the front of the wall. Because it is electric, it needs no chimney or flue, so it could be built straight into the plastered wall and run from a socket. The flame effect and the heat work separately, so the customer can enjoy the look on its own through the warmer months.
The illuminated alcoves
The alcoves on either side were plastered into the wall and fitted with small downlights. At night the lighting gives a soft, even glow that lifts the display pieces and stops the shelves looking flat. It is a simple detail that makes a big difference to how the finished wall feels in the evening.
The finish
The whole wall was plastered and finished in a warm, neutral tone, with the television set flush and the fire just above the floor. The parquet floor and clean skirting keep the look calm and modern.

Common questions
Do I need a chimney for a media wall electric fire?
No. An electric fire needs no chimney or flue and runs from a standard socket, which is what makes a built in media wall so straightforward.
Can the alcoves be lit like this one?
Yes. Small downlights or LED strips can be built into the alcoves so they glow in the evening. We plan the lighting as part of the design.
Can you build a media wall in my home?
In most rooms, yes. The main things we check are the wall, the fire size, and where the television and sockets will sit. Send us a photo and rough measurements and we will advise.
